Suspect steals grocery cart full of beer

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- Police are looking for the man accused of stealing a cartload of beer from a Henry County grocery store.

The theft happened at the Publix at 250 East Atlanta Road in Stockbridge.

Police believe the suspect, described as a black man, left the store in a red GMC Yukon.

Anyone who can help investigators identify the suspect is asked to call Henry County Police at 770-288-8494.

Henry County temporarily closes dog parks

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. – Henry County officials have temporarily closed two dog parks due to a spike in dog flu cases.

The Mt. Carmel Bark Park, which is located in Hampton, and a dog park at Alexander Park in McDonough will be closed for the next 30 days as a preventative measure against the dog flu, which has affected several surrounding counties.

If no cases of canine influenza are reported after 30 days, the parks will reopen.

Artist Andy Davis dies after motorcycle accident


HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- A famous local artist has died after being seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Friday night.

Officials said Andy Davis was injured in the accident in Henry County. Trooper Clayton Jones, who worked the scene, said Davis was struck from behind by a pickup truck while riding his motorcycle on Jodeco Road overpass.

Henry County man critical after being hit by train

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Henry County officials are investigating and medical crews working feverishly after a man was struck by a train, Saturday afternoon.

First responders were dispatched to the scene around 4 p.m. where a 31-year-old white male was hit near Valley Hill Road and East Atlanta Road in Stockbridge, Ga.

Officials said he was walking the tracks when he was struck by the train and airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Officlas from both CSX and Norfolk Southern railroad companies are on the scene as well.

Homeowner shoots burglar

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- Police say they won't charge a homeowner who shot a burglar outside his home Tuesday night.

The suspect was caught trying to steal items from the homeowner's boat and shed.

Henry County Police said they responded to the home on Leigh Drive in Ellenwood at around 11:30 p.m. They said it was the second time the homeowner was burglarized.

The homeowner, who was not identified, came home from work and his dog alerted him to a burglar a car port where he stored his boat. Police said at some point, while holding the suspect at gunpoint, the homeowner shot him in the stomach.

Several residents said they have been victimized by thieves in the past and they backed their neighbor's actions.

Henry County homeowner shoots burglary suspect

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- A burglary suspect is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot by a Henry County homeowner.

The shooting happened at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on Leigh Drive in the Ellenwood area.

Henry County Police Lt. Joey Smith said the homeowner returned from work to find his shed being burglarized. The victim keeps a boat in the shed. He told police his dog alerted him to the structure's open door.

The homeowner went into the shed and found a man trying to take items. Smith said the victim tried to detain the suspect at gunpoint; at some point, the suspect was shot in the abdomen.

The suspect has not yet been identified. Smith said the man will be charged with burglary and entering auto.

Arrest made in May shooting near local high school

McDONOUGH, Ga. -- Police made an arrest, Wednesday, in the May 13 shooting near Eagles Landing High School.

Detectives of the Henry County Police Department's criminal investigation division and agents of the Criminal Apprehension Gange Enforcement (CAGE) Unit apprehended Jahmal Holman who was wanted out of Henry County for aggravated assault.


The warrant was in response to a shooting that occurred in a wooded area near Eagles Landing High School.

Investigation revealed that Holman was in the area of 7200 Davidson Parkway in Stockbridge, Ga. which is in Clayton County.
