Man charged with shooting wife in the neck


HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- A Henry County man is in jail Monday morning after being charged with shooting his wife during an argument.

Henry County Police were dispatched at around midnight to a home in the 150 block of Cottonbelle Drive near Stockbridge. When they arrived, they found a woman with a gunshot wound to her neck.

Police determined the victim and her husband, 51-year-old Mack Weaver, were arguing. Weaver was holding a handgun, which discharged.

Weaver was charged with aggravated assault and booked in the Henry County Jail.

The victim is in stable condition at Atlanta Medical Center.

Two Henry Co. neighborhoods under rabies alert


STOCKBRIDGE, Ga -- Two Henry County neighborhoods are under rabies alerts after a recent outbreak.

The two cases happened within the last week and in one case, eight members of a family have to undergo rabies treatment.

Henry County Animal Control officials said there have been four rabies cases since February, which is unusual.

"Normally I start receiving these type of cases around late June or early July," said Rabies Control Officer Vince Farah.

The latest case happened in Stockbridge on Tuesday when a dead cat tested positive for rabies. It was Walter and Shannon McElreath's cat. They live in the Carriage Trace neighborhood.

Suspect ID'd in Eagles Landing HS shooting


MCDONOUGH, Ga. – Henry County Police have identified the suspect who reportedly shot someone on the property of Eagle's Landing High School late Wednesday.

Jahmal Deshad "Benji" Holman, 20, is charged with aggravated assault. He is black, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 130 pounds, and may have tattoos on his face. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911.

According to Henry County Schools spokesperson John Hardin, the shooting happened at the back of the Eagles Landing High property. A person suffered a minor injury in the shooting.

Neither the shooter nor the victim were students of the school, Hardin said.

Hardin said school officials are "taking proactive steps in the surrounding area to ensure the safety and security of our campus."

Alleged teen gunman charged with voluntary manslaughter in Locust Grove shooting


LOCUST GROVE, GA (WXIA) -- A teenager who allegedly shot and killed a classmate after an argument has been issued a warrant for voluntary manslaughter.

The teen was charged and has been released on bond, a Henry County police spokesperson said Wednesday.

Police said three teens were involved in an argument at a Locust Grove home that ended when one of them shot and killed another.

Police say a teenage girl who lives in a home in the Wyckliffe subdivision was arguing with her 17-year-old boyfriend. They say that while they were arguing, another teen, the girl's younger brother, shot and killed the boyfriend, Dalton McCollough of Hampton.

Neighbors say they heard yelling coming from inside the house, followed by gunfire.

Vigil held for Henry County teen shot to death


LOCUST GROVE, GA (WXIA) – Wednesday night, a vigil took place to remember a teen police said was shot and killed by his girlfriend's brother.

It's clear that Dalton McCollouch made an indelible impact on his classmates at Hampton High School.

Wednesday night, several hundred of them turned out for a candlelight vigil in his honor. School officials said it was a private memorial and that news cameras would not be allowed.

Henry County manager resigns


HENRY COUNTY, Ga. – Henry County's manager announced his resignation on Wednesday.

Walker had been placed on paid administrative leave during an internal investigation that began on April 28, according to Henry County Communications Director Melissa Robinson.

In his resignation letter, Jim Walker said he wanted to pursue other opportunities.

"Thank you for the opportunity to serve the citizens and the great employees of Henry County," Walker said in his letter. "I believe the time is right for me to step down as County Manager and pursue other professional opportunities."

Walker was appointed manager on March 31, 2014.

Walker's resignation is effect May 10. Assistant County Manager Cheri Hobson-Matthews will run the day-to-day operations of the county until the Henry County Board of Commissioners decides the next stop in the hiring of a new manager.

Missing McDonough woman found


MCDONOUGH, Ga. -- McDonough Police say a missing 26-year-old woman has been found.

Kimberly Sareta Ruth Gordon, 26, was last seen at a Henry County government office at around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. She was supposed to attend a class at Clayton State University Thursday morning, but never arrived.

Investigators said Saturday that Gordon has been located.
