HAMPTON, Ga. -- Dutchtown Elementary School is the only public school in Georgia to receive a grant to add a Chinese Dual Immersion Program to its curriculum.

Starting this fall, kindergarten students at the Hampton school will begin learning Mandarin Chinese as one of their core requirements.

Dutchtown Elementary received $15,000 to incorporate the Chinese language and culture program.

"These programs will help ensure a Georgia workforce that is fluent in languages and skilled at cultural interactions that are necessary for the economic development of our state and region," State School Superintendent John Barge said in a statement.

The dual immersion program follows a 50/50 model, where students will learn half their lessons in English and the other half in Chinese. During the 2013-14 school year, Dutchtown's kindergartners will learn math and science in Mandarin Chinese; language arts and social studies will be taught in English.

MCDONOUGH, Ga. -- Eighth grade students at Henry County Middle School have been studying various aspects of World War II this year.

First, the children learned all about the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American pilots who fought in the war.

Now, the curriculum has shifted to the Holocaust. To cap off the lesson in one of the most difficult periods in history, Henry County Middle administrators have invited an Auschwitz survivor to speak to students about her experience.

Helen Weingarten will address the school community at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25. The public is invited to attend; tickets are $10 each, but seating is limited to 250 people, so those who are interested are encouraged to sign up soon.

Attendees will also be treated to a dinner theater production of And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank, performed by Roswell's Georgia Ensemble Theatre.
