Atlanta's own Electric Violinist Ken Ford performed live on Saturday, December 10th in front of millions for the 77th annual Heisman Trophy Presentation Presented by on ESPN. A first in the network's history to have a live music performance take place during the Heisman presentation.

McDonough - Henry County will usher in the holidays with the 7th Annual Heritage Christmas Festival to be held on Saturday, December 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Heritage Park in McDonough, where the park will be transformed into a festive, holiday wonderland.

Kids of all ages will enjoy fun-filled holiday activities, such as hayrides, arts and crafts, live entertainment, shopping, delicious food and exciting games, including the popular Elf School, where children have to opportunity to participate in holiday specific games and earn their Elf diploma. Put on your dancing shoes, because Radio Disney will be spinning the latest tunes from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Christmas for the Community by the Community

McDonough - Connecting Henry, Inc., together with Avalon Hope, Inc. and other businesses, organizations and churches have put together a new Christmas program, Christmas for the Community by the Community, to help those in need during the holiday season. With officials having just finished interviews with families who are need this holiday season, Susan Crumbley of Connecting Henry said that they have nearly 1,000 children to help this year.

The new program, featuring the  Community Cares Toy Shop, is a revamped program from last year’s Connecting Henry ‘s Community Christmas and is designed to better meet the needs in the county, which are continuing to increase, even as resources continue to decrease.

This three-day Christmas event will take place from December 8 through December 10 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The goal of the event is to give families in need a joyful Christmas experience.

‘Vettes for Vets Car Show Coming to Henry County

 

Show off your prized autos at the first “Vettes for Vets” Car Show to be held at Heritage Park in McDonough on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The car show is open to all cars, trucks and bikes and prizes will be awarded in several categories, including Best in Show, People’s Choice, Participants’ Choice and Best Paint Job. There will also be concessions, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and music.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Veterans Museum at Heritage Park and the National Corvette Museum. The entry fee is $20 to show and $10 to display. There is a $5 discount for active and retired military personnel for judged entries.

Clayton State professor to perform at WordFeast

Clayton State professor to perform at WordFeast

ATLANTA -- One of Clayton State University's most notable professors will use his gift of words to enhance WordFeast, a production benefiting Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Phillip DePoy, a Decatur-based novelist and playwright, as well as director of Clayton State Theatre, will perform at WordFeast at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5 at Fabrefaction Theatre Company.

Hosted by Rob Cleveland, WordFeast will include works and performances by a variety of talented local writers. Admission is $15 or 15 cans of food for the shelves of Atlanta Community Food Bank.

"This is a worthwhile event that benefits the Atlanta Community Food Bank at Christmas, and I'm very glad to be donating my time to the cause," DePoy said.

Turkey Day 5K Set For Thanksgiving Day

McDonough - The Turkey Day 5K will be held on Thanksgiving morning at the South Point Shopping center in McDonough, with registration being held from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. The 5K run begins at 8:00 a.m. followed by the one-mile walk at 8:15 a.m. and the Tot Trot at 8:30 a.m. Everyone pre-registered will receive a free tee shirt and awards will be given to the top male and female finishers and first to third place runners in several age categories.

Runners, walkers and people of all ages can do something good for their body and soul by participating in the 5K, one-mile or tot trot, and the proceeds go to help the most vulnerable of our population—our senior citizens and our children.
