Locost Grove --  The Henry County Parks and Recreation Department’s Therapeutic Recreation Division, along with the Georgia Kayak Fishing Foundation, is sponsoring a Kayak and Fishing Field Day for the special needs community on June 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cubihatcha Outdoor Center.

Attendees will enjoy a fun day on the water at the beautiful Cubihatcha Outdoor Center and all of the gear needed for both kayaking and fishing, including life vests, will be provided free of charge, as well as lunch from Shane’s Rib Shack.

According to Terry Nash, the Georgia Kayak Fishing Foundation has been instrumental in planning the event and securing funds, food and equipment for this special day for those with special needs and their families.

“These guys just really have a passion for this sport and they‘ve made it possible for us to host this event. They have really done everything to provide what we need to make this happen,” said Nash.

Nash said there is a possibility that Kayaking and Fishing will become a Special Olympic event and that this is a good way to introduce the sport to special needs athletes.

The Cubihatcha Outdoor Center is located at 100 Collins Rd. in Locust Grove. Reservations are required to attend the Kayak and Fishing Field Day.
