You-pick farms have more than just strawberries and are increasing in popularity

You-pick farms have more than just strawberries and are increasing in popularity

McDonough, GA --  (submitted by seasonspeakmarketing) The strawberry season is just beginning for many farms in Georgia, including locally Southern Belle Farm in McDonough.  You-pick farms are increasing in popularity and are becoming a tradition for folks each year.  Farm patrons are coming for more than just fresh produce.

Many family farms have had to diversify what their farm offers, in some cases just to be able to afford to keep the farm in the family.  Some have opened their farm for educational trips for school groups, allowing the students to learn about agriculture and farm life.  Others have opened their farm to the public for various forms of agri-tourism.  This is a growing trend.

The Carter family of Southern Belle Farm in Henry County, Georgia decided to diversify what their farm offers some time ago, and continues to do so.

Atlanta Blogger Shares What She Learned about Snow Shoveling in Atlanta

Atlanta Blogger Shares What She Learned about Snow Shoveling in Atlanta

Mableton, GA--

Four Things I Learned Shoveling Snow in ATLANTA I walked by the window yesterday and saw my neighbor outside clearing her driveway, got excited and volunteered to go shovel ours. I live in an equal opportunity house, Husband had no objection, and I really wanted to get out for a minute. We’ve been snowed in since Sunday night. Enough said.

While it SEEMED like a good idea, I grew up in Connecticut and thought I knew everything about snow, I quickly learned a few things: Don’t volunteer to shovel snow when its NOT snow. It was ice. Solid ice. Yeah, that’s different than the light, fun, fluffy stuff. I should’ve turned myself around when I stepped on it and slid 6 feet across the driveway.

Get yourself a BIG shovel. And apparently some other tools – like an ice pick.

Henry County Fire Department try to Save Historic Church Gutted by Fire

McDonough, GA--  (submitted by Henry County Fire Dept.)

A Henry County church congregation is left wondering just what happened, after arriving for church service yesterday to find the building they worship in totally destroyed by the fury of fire.  Fire units were dispatched to Wolf Creek County Line Baptist Church at 3352 Old Jackson Road at just after 2:30 Sunday morning.  Units arrived on scene to find a heavily involved structure with the threat of immediate roof collapse. Fire was reported by a passerby.

The two alarm fire kept fire crews busy well into Sunday morning as they worked to put out the fire, check for hot spots and perform overhaul.  The church building was one hundred and thirty eight years old. The congregation is fifty to sixty members strong.
