Body of local airman killed in Afghanistan arrives home

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- The body of a local airman killed in a military helicopter crash in Afghanistan arrived home on Tuesday.

Airman 1st Class Kcey E. Ruiz, 21, of McDonough, Ga., was one of six airmen who died after their C-130 crashed at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, on Oct. 2.

The plane carrying her body arrived at Tara Field in Henry County on Tuesday afternoon.

Law enforcement, veterans and members of the community were to pay their respects to Ruiz.

Police escorted the body to Jackson, Ga. 

Ruiz joined the U.S. Air Force after graduated from Dutchtown High School.

Funeral arrangements for Ruiz have not been announced.

Also killed aboard the flight was Senior Airman Nathan C. Sartain, 29, of Pensacola, Florida. and members of the 39th Airlift Squadron from Dyess Air Force Base, Texas - Capt. Jonathan J. Golden, 33, of Camarillo, Calif., Capt. Jordan B. Pierson, 28, of Abilene, Texas, Staff Sgt. Ryan D. Hammond, 26, of Moundsville, West Va. and Senior Airman Quinn L. Johnson-Harris, 21, of Milwaukee, Wis.
