Henry County Schools names new superintendent

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- Rodney Bowler has been named the new superintendent for Henry County Schools.

The Henry County School Board voted earlier this month to promote Bowler from his current job as assistant superintendent for administrative services, a position he has held since 2011.

"Being named as the fourteenth superintendent for Henry County Schools is indeed an honor and I am truly humbled," Bowler said in a statement. "It is with great respect, humility and passion that I look forward to serving the students, staff and community of Henry County as superintendent."

Bowler replaces outgoing superintendent Dr. Ethan Hildreth, who announced his retirement in September. Hildreth expressed his approval of the board's decision.

"I am confident that Mr. Bowler will continue this tradition (of excellence) as he leads our school system and community into the future," Hildreth said.

Bowler began his career in Henry County as a special education teacher at Eagle's Landing High School. He has also served as assistant principal of that school, as well as principal of Union Grove High School.

He will officially begin his new job in April 2014.
