County Library System Offers Free E-Books

County Library System Offers Free E-Books

In keeping with the times and technology, Henry County’s Library System offers downloadable e-books and audiobooks for free, through the statewide Georgia Download Destination (GADD). The service makes it convenient for library patrons to access a wide variety of titles, with a few simple clicks.

Since 2009, the Henry County Library System has been part of a consortium that initially offered downloadable audio books for mp3 players, iPods and other listening devices. They now offer downloadable e-books for the various e-readers available, such as the Nook, iPad and Kindle.

“We recently added the Kindle, which is the Amazon version, and now we can add folks with Kindles and they can download the books,” said Carolyn Fuller, Director of the Henry County Library System.

13 Metro Atlanta communities receive transportation grants

13 Metro Atlanta communities receive transportation grants

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Regional Commission recently awarded $34 million in grants to help 13 Metro Atlanta communities build innovative transportation projects.

Each project includes pedestrian and bicycle improvements to encourage residents to find "greener" ways of getting from place to place, and to make these neighborhoods more livable and supportive of transit.

The money was given through the ARC's Livable Center Initiative, which is funded with federal transportation dollars.

"LCI has helped communities across Metro Atlanta re-tool and redesign over the years, creating more plans that attract residents and businesses alike," said Doug Hooker, executive director of ARC. "This program is a model for others around the country and has helped to create or finalize many of our region's most innovative and livable communities."

McDonough's new party store: colorful or classless?

McDonough's new party store: colorful or classless?

McDONOUGH, Ga. -- A new store on the historic McDonough Square has sparked a lot of opinions, all due to the building's eye-catching color.

Party Time Plus, which is in the process of moving to its new location from Jonesboro Road, is scheduled to open later this week. Its bright yellow exterior provides a stark contrast to the sea of brick that makes up the rest of the square.

What do you think of the color? Is it an eyesore, or is it breathing some life back into McDonough Square? Is it appropriate for a party supply store, or altogether inappropriate?
