Kohl's hiring 50,000 for holidays

(WXIA) -- Kohl's plans to hire about 50,000 seasonal associates nationwide this year.

The department store chain announced Thursday that it hopes to find about 40 employees for each of its 1,158 stores, plus 6,400 people to work in distribution centers and 350 workers in credit operations.

Seasonal Kohl's employees can work up to 20 hours per week. Typical duties include unloading trucks, processing freight, stocking the store and running a cash register.

Kohl's said it will begin hiring for the holidays this month and hopes to fill all its seasonal positions by mid-November.

Sad day for Atlanta couponers: The end of Kroger double coupons

ATLANTA -- The wave of couponers' cries heard in the Midwest and Texas has finally hit the Southeast!

For years, we have enjoyed the everyday doubling of coupons $0.50 and less. We got FREE items because of this great policy and it made handling an almost impossible budget easier for us couponers and savvy shoppers.

While I am not saying that this will hurt us (I will be posting some other things Kroger is doing), it does have me wondering -- in this competitive Atlanta market, where we use more coupons per capita then ANYWHERE in the US -- how will this fare? Will Publix jump on the bandwagon?

The end of double coupons becomes effective September 21, 2013. For this couponer, I will be having to double check my shopping list with this new rule. It's not fun, but a lot of new things are coming from Kroger, and I think this is why the program of double couponing is ending.

ATLANTA – A winning ticket worth a half-million dollars was sold in Henry County. Chevron Food Mart, located at 2778 Highway 81 E. in McDonough, sold a winning ticket worth $500,000 from the Georgia Lottery instant game $500,000 Green.

The winner, Amy Painter of McDonough, claimed her prize recently at the Georgia Lottery’s headquarters in Atlanta.

The gas station also sold a winning Jumbo Bucks Classic instant ticket worth $50,000 in 2012.

Fulton school bus driver gets green light on $400K

ATLANTA – Pamela Hampton of Ellenwood is excited over winning a hefty prize from the Georgia Lottery. Hampton, a Pre-Kindergarten school bus driver in Fulton County, has won a $400,000 top prize playing the instant game 20X The Money.

Hampton, 59, claimed her prize Monday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

“I bought it while on my lunch break,” she explained. “I was in the store when I scratched it.”

Chevron Food Mart, 2050 Sylvan Road SW in Atlanta, sold the winning ticket.

“I had to focus my eyes. I couldn’t believe it,” the grandmother of four said. “The clerk and I both started jumping up and down.”

Hampton, who has two children with her husband, Larry, intends to pay off bills with the windfall.

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- One Henry County man is celebrating a heap of a prize from the Georgia Lottery just weeks before his birthday. Kurt Reinhardt, who will celebrate his 32nd birthday this month, won a $400,000 top prize playing the new instant game $400,000 Bonanza.

“I just scratched it, and I kept looking at it several times,” said Reinhardt, a Stockbridge resident. “I yelled in the store, then ran out and went home.”

Liberty Chevron, 1015 Highway 155 S. in McDonough, sold the lucky ticket.

“When I get it in the bank, I’m going to buy a home,” Reinhardt exclaimed.

$352K lottery ticket sold in Stockbridge

ATLANTA – A ticket carrying the jackpot prize from a recent Fantasy 5 drawing was sold in Henry County.

Korner Store BP, located at 155 E. Atlanta Road in Stockbridge, sold a Quik Pik ticket worth $352,497 from the Jan. 12 Fantasy 5 drawing.

Winning numbers from the drawing were: 3-4-19-20-39.

The winner, William Perry of Stockbridge, matched all five numbers and claimed his prize Monday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.
