2 arrested for trafficking drugs

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- Two Florida men were arrested in Henry County last month after they were caught with cocaine and marijuana.

The suspects' car was pulled over on Interstate 75 on Friday, Mar. 23 for its illegal window tint.

Police smelled marijuana inside the car and conducted a probable cause search, which uncovered two packages wrapped in duct tape. One of the packages contained about two pounds of cocaine, while the other had one pound of marijuana.

The driver of the car was identified as 31-year-old Cedric Lamont Jenkins. His passenger was 26-year-old Anthony Jamel Johnson.

Jenkins and Johnson, who both live in Havana, Fla., were arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine and marijuana possession.

Police seek Stockbridge stalking suspect

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Police in Henry County are working to identify a man who may be stalking a Stockbridge resident.

The bearded suspect has stalked the area around Turning Point in Stockbridge at least eight times, at all hours of the day and night, according to investigators.

Police said the man stole two butchers knives from a home in the area and left notes for his victim.

Anyone who can identify the suspect is asked to call 911 or Henry County police at 770-288-8265.

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Police in Henry County are looking for two men suspected of crashing their car into that of a pregnant woman, killing her unborn child.

The accident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in front of the McDonald's on Hudson Bridge Road in Stockbridge.

Witnesses told police that the car that hit the woman's was a Ford Expedition with two men inside. The suspects were described as being white and in their early to mid-20s.

The suspects' car was last seen driving down Hudson Bridge Road toward Interstate 75.

The impact of the crash caused the victim, who was four months pregnant, to miscarry.

Man shot in face, brother arrested

CANTON, Ga. -- Cherokee County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Canton man after the man's brother was shot in the face.

The incident happened Wednesday night at a house in the Forest Creek subdivision off Cumming Highway. Responding officers found the homeowner, 42-year-old Jeff Coker, with a gunshot wound to the face. His wife and children were home during the shooting, but were not in the same room, according to Cherokee County Sheriff's Office spokesman Howard Baker.

Coker was flown by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was still in critical condition Thursday morning.

The victim's brother, 37-year-old Christopher Coker, was with him when police arrived. Baker said investigators could not determine if Christopher Coker shot his brother or if the shooting was accidental; they believe alcohol played a role in the incident.

Police searching for man who approached underage girls

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Henry County Police are searching for a man who reportedly approached two underage girls and offered them candy.

The girls told police that the man drove up to them outside their home on Oakwood Drive in Stockbridge on Nov. 20. He gave the children Tootsie Rolls and told the younger that she was "pretty like a movie star."

The suspect drove away when the girls' mother called them inside.

The girls described the suspect as a white man in his 40s or 50s, with short grey hair and a grey goatee. He drove a white Dodge Caravan like the one pictured.

Ex-jail officer pleads guilty to smuggling coke to inmates

LITHONIA, Ga. -- A former Fulton County Jail detention officer has pleaded guilty to accepting a $650 bribe to smuggle cocaine into the Fulton County Jail.

Authorities said 31-year-old Akil Scott of Lithonia took advantage of his position at the jail to breach public trust in the many honest law enforcement officers in the county.

Scott is the third employee to plead guilty in this case. A former deputy sheriff, 34-year-old Marvie Trevino Dingle of Lithonia, pleaded guilty to extortion and cocaine possession on Nov. 8, and ex-detention officer Derick Deshun Frazier, 32, of Stockbridge pleaded guilty to extortion on Oct. 24.

Scott faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000 for the drug offense, as well as 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for extortion. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 16.

Morrow students arrested in gang investigation

MORROW (AP) - Clayton County sheriff's deputies say they've arrested four Morrow High School students following recent gang activity behind the school.

Sheriff's Investigator Spencer Norton tells the Clayton News Daily (http://bit.ly/vn3vVF) that two students were arrested at the school on Monday. Two others were picked up at their homes.

Sheriff's Lt. Brian Crisp says a 15-year-old female told police she was been sexually assaulted by a fellow student Oct. 28 behind the school.

Crisp said an investigation revealed the girl was a member of a street gang, and was involved in an initiation into another gang. Investigators say they believe the girl was forced to have sex with multiple gang members as part of the initiation.
