Be a Hero for the Day and Help Kids with Cancer

Atlanta, GA-- 11Alive has a chance for you to be a hero and help fight cancer in children.

We are hosting a Hero Central all day today (1/7) where you become the Hero. The money you give will go to ‘Curing Kid’s Cancer’ a local group raising money for research. It was started by parents who lost their child to cancer. 

We hope you’ll join us and help Friday from 11am to 8pm here at 11Alive.

Project Overcoat, seeks to collect warm clothing for the Homeless at metro Krogers until Jan. 22nd

Atlanta, GA--  (submitted by United Way)

During the frigid winter months, imagine sleeping on the cold pavement. Imagine wearing only doubled-up T-shirts to work in 20-degree weather because that’s all you have to keep warm. Unfortunately, this is the reality for far too many metro Atlantans who are homeless or can’t afford a coat or blanket.

From Jan. 8-22, everyone is encouraged to drop off blankets or new or gently used coats of all sizes at any Kroger in the metro region.

WHAT:  Project Overcoat. All sizes needed, from children to adult sizes.                   

WHEN:  Jan. 8-22. Drop off at any Kroger store in metro Atlanta.

More Items Needed for Mayor's Christmas Motorcade

Atlanta, GA--  The 2010 Mayors' Motorcade is designed to collect Christmas gifts for patients staying in the Central Georgia Hospital in Milledgeville.  The delivery date of all collected gifts will be December 7th.

The Mayor wants everyone to know that most of the patients are adults and that gifts may be dropped off at McDonough City Hall.

Items still needed are things like board games, watches, walkman radios, personal care items like deodorant and shaving cream, as well as miscellaneous gifts like stationary and tote bags.  New clothing and shoes are also acceptable.

Henry Board of Commissioners Recognizes November as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

Atlanta, GA--  The Henry County Board of Commissioners joined the nation in proclaiming the month of November as National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and presented Susan Craig, Director of Henry County Senior Services, with a proclamation at Monday’s commission meeting.

Rite Aid to Hold Free Diabetes Clinics

ATLANTA -- November is American Diabetes Month, and a number of Atlanta-area Rite Aid pharmacies will hold free Diabetes Solutions Days during the week of Nov. 1.

An annual tradition, these clinics are a great chance for patients and caretakers alike to brush up on the latest information from Rite Aid's clinical pharmacy team and the American Diabetes Association, a Rite Aid national strategic partner.

Clinics will take place at the following locations from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.:
