New Bridge to be Built over Railroad Tracks on Rock Quarry Road

Stockbridge, GA--  (submitted by Henry County Communications)  The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved an agreement between the County and Norfolk Southern Corporation for the construction of a bridge over the railroad tracks on Rock Quarry Road in Stockbridge. The bridge is part of the Rock Quarry Road widening project, a designated SPLOST III transportation project.

Norfolk Southern will contribute a lump sum of $187,500 to the construction of the bridge, which equals five percent of the total cost. Norfolk Southern will also perform preliminary and construction engineering for the new bridge, which will cost the county $167,000, for a net gain to the County of $20,500. Also included in the preliminary engineering and construction design will be the removal of the current signal and electrical changes.

The new bridge will replace the current grade-crossing and is expected to greatly improve the flow of traffic as well as enhance emergency vehicle access to the surrounding area.  Both the new Fire Station #9 (currently under construction) and Henry Medical Center are located on Rock Quarry Road.

The construction will be put out to bid in the spring. Once construction begins, the road project including the bridge is expected to take 18 months to complete.
